I'm ecstatic to announce that version 5.0 of the JHipster Mini-Book is available for download or purchase. You can download it for free from InfoQ or purchase a paperback version from Lulu. This edition is updated for JHipster 5 and includes new sections on progressive web apps (PWA), code quality, and securing user data.
I'd especially like to thank my tech editors (Dennis Sharpe and Jeet Gajjar) for making this the most technically accurate book so far! Jeet built the 21-Points Health app from scratch and found quite a few differences in the book vs the code. Thanks Jeet!
While the book doesn't cover React (it wouldn't be a mini-book if it did), I did mention Roberto Melfi's 21-points-react.
I'm proud to say the book and its example app continue to inspire me. In fact, I did a 14-Day Sugar Detox while I was finalizing the 5.0 draft. I even scored 21 points, two weeks in a row!
If you're new to JHipster, here's my recommended path to learning it:
- Watch my Get Started with JHipster 5 YouTube video.
- Do its associated tutorial.
- Download and read the JHipster Mini-Book or Full Stack Development with JHipster.
Of course, writing an app with JHipster is the best learning tool! If you're interested in its microservices support, I'd recommend my Pluralsight course.
Version 4.5 JHipster Mini-Books for Students
A couple of weeks ago, I had a miscommunication with InfoQ about pre-ordering a bunch of books. They thought "pre-order" meant I wanted to order them before the end of the month. To me, "pre-order" meant I wanted to pre-pay for a bunch of 5.0 books. Long story short: I have 218 v4.5 books looking for a good home. There are six boxes in total, which means there are around 36 books per box.
I looked into donating these books to a professor in France, but at USD 166 per box, they're too expensive to ship overseas. If you're a professor/teacher in the US and are teaching JHipster, I'd be happy to ship you some books. If you're willing to pay shipping costs, I'd be willing to cover up to $50/box. Heck, I might even be willing to sign them. 😉
I know it's a tough sell because students will have to use JHipster 4 for the examples to work, but they can always download the latest version of the book if they want the latest and greatest. Please let me know if you're interested - I'd hate to throw all of them away.
Now's your chance Java developers - download my book and get hip with JHipster!
